Cooking your way through change

I will admit up front that I have a soft spot for anything to do with Julia Child. I always loved her on TV. When I found out we were distantly, distantly related, well what can I say! So I had to read Julie Powell's autobiographical book Julie and Julia.

Julie never thought she'd end up a temp in New York. She never thought she'd be told to keep an eye on her biological clock by her doctor because of her PCOS. All in all, it isn't turning out to be a good year.

Then Julie comes up with a plan. She is going to cook her way through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. This would be a challenging job for the best of cooks and Julie isn't exactly a foodie. However having discovered MAFC at the same time as her dad's copy of Joy of Sex when she was a teen, Julie views MAFC as a sensual tome that will help her through this crisis.

She begins a blog at the same time and soon people are following her food adventure with her. From trying to cook in a too small kitchen, to hacking a bone up for marrow, to terrible dinners served late at night. Still she can't give up now. After all she has an audience who are depending on her.

The book is a hilarious adventure with a touch of sex in the city complement of her friends.
